Talking to God
God speaks so indirectly. He hardly
gives us his own voice, as one thing amidst things. The LORD was
not in the wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire.
But
us... As though we were oblivious of this – we are certainly not – we
try again and again in one-way conversation to speak to God directly.
Why do we try again and again to speak in a way we were not taught? Why do we
not try to match God’s indirect words in the same manner that they come to us –
through community, relationships, service, humility, beauty, ugliness:
through throughness –
and so in our living begin, finally, to hold a two-way conversation?
